Illustrator CC 2025/2026 won't allow me to manipulate objects on the artboard

Since using Creative Cloud apps 2025 and 2026 for Windows like Illustrator after a few seconds, I can't manipulate objects on the canvas/artboard. This also happens in Photoshop, After Effects and InDesign. However, when I use Illustrator (Photoshop, After Effects, InDesign, etc.), I have no issues.

 

For example if I import an image in Illustrator, it will initially allow me to move, scale, etc. However, after a few seconds, I can’t select the object nor manipulate (scale, resize, etc.). If I close Illustrator and reopen, I am able to manipulate for a few seconds and then it stops allowing me to modify.

 

This behavior persists in all the Adobe apps in Windows. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling various versions of the CC apps. But the same behavior occurs. Because I have a Mac, I switch over to my Mac. However, my main workstation is Windows-based.

    Is the driver for your computer’s graphics board or chipset up to date? A bad graphics driver could be the culprit. Drivers for other connected devices, such as a graphics tablet, can cause issues. If any wireless pointing devices are connected make sure the batteries are good and that the USB transmitter device is working properly.

    Hi Bobby, thanks for the response. I think you nailed it.

    Although I use the same wireless/keyboard mouse setup on my Mac with no issues, the culprit seems to be specifically the wireless keyboard. I attached a wired mouse/keyboard and no problems. Then I reattached the wireless mouse. Both the wired mouse and wireless mouse can manipulate objects. Once I touch a key on the wireless keyboard, I can no longer manipulate objects with either of the mice.

    Thanks again for the tip; I now have a path forward. This has been driving me batty for a few months now!
