Illustrator CC not showing svg correctly.

Hi,

I try to open up this .svg in Illustrator but it shows up all wrong.

ne_10m_la.svg - Google Drive

The odd thing is that it is shown correctly in Viewer and in Safari or any other program I've tried. But I need to have it opened in Illustrator.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try and open it in Inkscape and export it from there as an EPS or PDF. Or get a different file that shows the same content.

I don't think you can make that file work in Illustrator.

Hi and thanks for the reply!

I exported it from Inkscape (which btw shows the svg correctly) to eps. The eps shows correctly in Finder but when I try to open it in Illustrator I get a message saying The operation cannot complete because of a unknown error.

PDF didn't show up correctly in Illustrator.

    So frustrating

Can you upload both the EPS and the PDF?

SVG is Inkscape's native file format, so it's logical that Inkscapes is better at opening SVGs. Illustrator needs to convert SVGs to its own way of organizing stuff when opening them.

But then EPS is not a native file format of Inkscape, so it has to do some conversion when writing them.

And your SVG is quite heavy. It has 4 decimal digits, which is a lot more than the usual SVG is supposed to have. It might just be too much to process.

As I said: look for a different file. This is just continents, there are plenty of these available.
