Illustrator changes shape/fill?

I am trying to copy an Illustrator image from a style guide and place it into a new Illustrator document.
When I paste it, some parts of the illustration change. In the original, there are 4 pink soft-edged ovals. When I Paste it into the new doc, they become hard-edged rectangles.
Anybody know what's happening?
