Sorry to hear about this experience. I hope the suggestions shared by Ton helped resolve your trouble with Illustrator. If not, kindly try rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

This has been an issue on the last three releases for me. I have cleared the preferences and it continues to be a fault in safe mode. This is pratically making your software unusable.

For clarification this problem is not only linked to the keyboard shortcuts but is also occurs when using the menu and mouse context menu.

Stop blaming the customers and fix the problem with your software.
