Illustrator crash

Hey all -

I have been trying to open illustrator all day today and each time I open it my cursor immediately starts blinking. This causes the tabs and icons not to function eventually leading the program to be unresponsive and crash.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling different versions, using the adobe cleaning tool and deleting various files.

I found one source that said it could be plug-ins attached to the program but I'm having trouble understanding how the cleaning tool would not have taken care of these?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
