Illustrator Crash

I currently pay a monthly membership for the whole adobe family. Whenever I use any product, especially Illustrator, my computer will crash. I understand it has something to do with the graphics card. My computer is old, about 10 years old. It's a Mac. I keep it updated and it runs perfectly except for when I try to use Adobe  Products.

When my computer crashes the error message goes so quickly I can't catch the message. In the report, there is too much to retype for you but hopefully this will help somewhat: GPU panic: mix-reg 5 3 7f 0 0 0  Severity 3 switch-state 0 EG power-state 0 3D HDA 0: \n"@/Library/cashes/com.apple.xbx/sources/applegraphicscontrol/applegraphicscontrol-3.14.41/src/applemuxcontrol/kext/gpupanic.cpp:143

About my computer:

macOS Sierra Version 10.12.4

Mac OS Version: 16E195

Model: MacBookPro6,2, BootROM MBP61.0057.B17

Processor 2.4 GHZ Intel Core i5, 4 GB, SMC 1.58f17

Darwin Kernel Version: 16.5.0

Intel HD Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT PCIe, 288 MB

Memory 4GB, 1067 MHz DDR3

Can you please walk me through how to resolve this crash issue. If you don't have enough information to help me, please ask and I will do my best to find the information you request.

Correct answer Cari Jansen

I'd probably start by going through some of the basics fix-it steps we generally recommend people try:

Do you have any third party plug-ins or extensions installed in Ilustrator? (e.g. font management).

  • Try to uninstall any third party plug-ins or extensions. Depending on how these are installed (you might need to refer to user documentation for the specific plug-in), use the Extension Manager application to disable the extension, or you can locate the plug-ins inside the Illustrator application folder and remove them manually.

Also have you tried deleting/resetting the Illustrator preferences?

You can also clear the cache on your computer:
