Illustrator Crashed and then reopened with an older version?

Illustrator crashed just a bit, and when it automatically reopened, the toolbar on the left side of the screen was different (tools in different orders, things like the shapes all being their own button instead of living under one, etc)! I think it may have reverted to an older version of the program?

It sounds like the Illustrator Preferences file may have been corrupted in the crash and then deleted and re-built. Usually when that happens the workspace in Illustrator gets reset to the original default. That includes the skinny tool bar in the image you posted as well as not many panels being visible in the workspace.
