Illustrator crashes every time I try to export a PDF. It is ruining my work and affecting my job

Illustrator crashes every single time I try to export a PDF. I have deadlines and very important work that are at risk of not being delivered thanks to this. Supposedly the best software in the world and this happens?? I have a Mac Book Pro with IOS Tahoe 6.4.1 (25E253), bought 5 months ago, with a Pro Adobe license. There is no plausible excuse for this to happen. I need help ASAP

Just to eliminate the possibility that what is happening is the result of program-wide corruption iy might be a good idea to reset your Illustrator preferences. This process will restore the program to its defaults. Hopefully, this will fix the PDF export issue.

To reste preferences on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which Illustrator’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that Illustrator is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N).With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and the file called “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files in this manner is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

    Hi FranciscoFM,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble you're experiencing crash while exporting a PDF. I am unable to replicate the issue on my end. Would you mind telling us if this is happening with a single file or all files? Are you connected to the external monitor?

Please also share the version of Illustrator installed on your machine. Have you tried copying and pasting the content into a new file and checking if that exports fine?

We will try our best to help.

    Thanks,

    Harshika

    Hello Harshika,

The Illustrator version is 30.3 and yes, I am connected to an external monitor.

This happens with most files, but not all. As if Illustrator has a mind of its won and decides what works and what doesn’t.

And yes, I have tried to copy and paste in a new file, but it happens again.

    Hello @FranciscoFM

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you please check if this happens when exporting to a specific folder location (internal/external/network drive or a cloud-synced folder like iCloud Drive/Dropbox/etc) so we can investigate this further?

Also, try to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (macOS) and disabling any plugins and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
