Illustrator Crashing With Pattern Feature

So here is my issue.

When I open a file, even an empty brand-new file, I can not make a pattern at all. I opened up a fresh file, yes, with every other file closed except that one, and tried to make a basic rectangle shape pattern, but it crashes once I hit the "DONE" option. I have no idea why this won't work at all for me and crashes the whole application. I work on a laptop that has about 16 GB of RAM, and again, it doesn't work even with everything closed.

 

What can and should I do?

Could you please confirm which version of Illustrator you're using and the details of your operating system? I checked for any crash logs linked to your community email, but couldn't find any. Please submit the crash report through the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog box and share the email address used for submission via DM, so I can locate the logs.
