Question

Illustrator creates duplicated files AND recovered files folder in mac trash bin

Hi all,

Recently I noticed two things when i use illustrator:

1. While I am in the program and having just saved my work, a few minutes later a few duplicated files would appear in the trash bin, with suffix of 2,3,4...

2. After I have used illustrator and shut down my computer. The next day when I turn it on, a recovery file folder would appear in the trash bin.

I found a reddit thread dated 2 years ago regarding the second issue, but it led to no solid solutions other than just deleting the files.

Has anyone else experienced this? These two things started just recently for me. I have ios Sequoia 15.3, and Illustrator 29.2.1

Hi @salix5ED3,

That sounds unusual, and I can understand how this could be concerning. Let’s try to narrow down what might be causing this behavior. Could you share a few more details?

1. Where are your files stored—locally on your Mac, a network drive, a server, or an external drive?

2. Are you using any third-party plugins with Illustrator?

3. Do you have any antivirus software, backup applications, or Time Machine running in the background?

4. As a test, could you try working in Safe Mode and see if Illustrator still creates duplicate or recovery files in the Trash?

These details will help us troubleshoot further. Looking forward to your response!

Best,
