Did you reinstall Illustrator after all this up- and downgrading?

You must also use the Adobe Cleaner tool in between un- and reinstalling.

Yes my laptop was completely wiped so I reinstalled CS5 which is now running mavericks and ever since AI crashes after starting to use it...
