Illustrator Define/export Assets with Compound Clipping path

Hi guys,

First time posting here and really struggling with my export file in Illustrator 21.0.0 v2017 using a Clipping Mask made out of Compound Clipping Path ans Assets defined.

It looks like the Asset Export are not taking the clipping Mask into account.

When adding the asset the clipping mask and the 3 layer underneath are selected but it look like the Compoundpath isn't applied. What should be cutted out is visible in the Assets Export pane, so does the result when exporting.

My layers

My preview in the Assets pane (will be liek this when exported in PNG format too)

The behavior in Illustrator ( we can see that the Green Square are not supposed to be visibile)

Here you go :

Dropbox - layers-artwork-forum-v1.ai

Thank you !

Thank you for the file.

Problem is how you made the clipping mask. You made a layer based mask using the button in the layers panel. That leads to the error.

Instead use the object based mask that you can apply with Object > Clipping mask > Make. It doesn't produce the error.

Please report it as a bug.

Hopefully the object based mask doesn't disturb your workflow too much (layer based masks have some nice advantages)

There actually are issues with clipping masks and the export panel.

But I just don't understand what you're describing there.

Maybe you can post a sceenshot of your artboard in Illustrator so we know how this is supposed to look?

Trouffmann,

Are you sure that the Clipping Mask is actually applied (that the (Compound) Clipping Path and the objects to be clipped are selected then Ctrl/Cmd+7 or Object>Clipping Mask>Make) and there are not duplicates underneath it? The Screen left and Screen right should not appear in the Layers palette under the Clipping Mask (if it is a Clipping Mask).

Alright, here are more details :

Goal :

Have an image with 2 shapes as alpha (basically revomive everything from the layer underneath it)

Process :

Shape left and Shape right are the shape I want to 'cut out' for all the layer underneath (mostly my background)

Shape left and shape right have FX applied like border, drop shadow

The background layer is a picture like any other.

I created a Compound path composed of : a layer takign the full spectrum of my artboard. 2 shapa that are the exact same size of the 2 shapes i have. Created a coumpound path, ans using this as the clipping mask on top of the 3 other layer (shape right/left/background)

Attached is the full size image I can see in illustrator (Note I changed the green background in shape right/left) for a transparent one.

What i see in the workspace

Result exported with assets :

We can see the clipping mask does not apply like int he workspace.

Any idea ?

I think I built something that resembles yours and I could export it without issues.

Can you upload the AI file and the placed images to a server so everyone can give it a try?

It's just that it's not clear what you've built there.
