Illustrator dialogue boxes appearing on wrong screen (MacBook Pro 2017)

Resetting preferences fixed the problem with Photoshop but not with Illustrator. Whenever I open Illustrator and drag it to the Dell monitor I have connected, it opens new dialogue boxes (e.g. character dialogue box) on the laptop's display rather than the screen that Illustrator is currently open on.

    Please try making external screen as your primary screen.
