Illustrator Dimension Tool Options Cannot Be Edited or Saved After Latest Update

Hello,

After the latest Adobe Illustrator update, the Dimension Tool Options panel has become unusable on my system.

I am experiencing the following issues consistently:

  • Font family, font size, line weight, line color, arrow style, and other Dimension Tool settings cannot be changed.

  • Even when values are manually modified in the panel, the changes are not applied to the dimension objects.

  • Clicking the Save button does not close the dialog and no settings are saved.

  • The only way to exit the panel is by clicking Cancel, which discards all changes.

  • This happens in both new documents and existing files.

  • Resetting Illustrator preferences does not resolve the issue.

Because of this behavior, it is currently impossible to customize dimension styles, making the Dimension Tool unusable for technical and production drawings.

I am attaching a screenshot of the Dimension Tool Options panel for reference.

System information:
Adobe Illustrator version: 30.1.0
Operating system: macOS 26.1
Hardware: Mac (Apple Silicon)

This looks like a regression introduced in the most recent update. I would appreciate confirmation of the issue and any information about a workaround or fix.

Thank you.

I wanted to post an update regarding the Dimension Tool Options issue I reported earlier. Interestingly, the problem resolved itself without any clear action on my side. The Dimension Tool Options panel is now working normally again. Font family, line weight, colors and other settings can be edited and saved correctly.

I did not reinstall Illustrator, apply a patch manually, or change any system settings. The issue simply disappeared after reopening Illustrator and continuing to work. Because of this, I suspect the problem may be related to a temporary UI or state issue introduced in the recent update.

I am attaching a new screenshot showing the Dimension Tool Options panel functioning normally. Hopefully this information helps in tracking down the root cause.

Thank you.

I’ve been having the same issue. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Though it seems to be file dependent -- once the Dimensions dialog box (Ddb) starts not working on a file, it doesn’t return to working again in the future, as far as I have noticed. But sometimes, if the Ddb isn’t working in one file, it may work in another file. (But if I copy something from a non-working Ddb file into a working Ddb file, the Ddb no longer works! ...But maybe not always?)

Hello @kkart

I understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying to update Illustrator to the latest version to see if it helps? Also, try to reset Illustrator's preferences as described in this article (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-preference-issues.html) and share your observations.

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I've been experiencing this for over 12 months...there's been no improvement or proper reply. Your description is exactly what I and my fellow AI users are finding daily. I wish they would take us seriously, It's an intermittant fault that isn't easily reproduced at will.
