illustrator- downloading packs?

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can go to get some brushes? and other handy tools

There are lots of brushes available for free and for paid. The free ones are collected in blog posts, just search for "download illustrator brushes" on your favourite search engine and you will find them.

Retro supply

Envato

Spoongraphics

Some of the commercial markets also run freebie offers from time to time.

You could also try Adobe Exchange for tools and stuff.
