Illustrator DXF Files: Doesn´t look like it should ... Why?

Hi Community,

 

i received a DXF file "Kartenspielebox" from a laser cutter. The system won´t let me upload it, so all I can offer are PDF versions.

 

The problem:

 

  • It should look like the attached PDF "Kartenspielebox_PDF-LaserCutter".
  • When I open the DXF in AI it looks like the attached PDF "Kartenspielebox"

 

The LaserCutter works with Corel14. I have the latest Version of AI.

Does anyone know, why the DXF looks not as it should when I open it in AI?

Thank you for the file. I tried it with Illustrator and using the EXDXF plugin. Did not turn out better.

CorelDRAW on the other hand does a decent job opening it.

They can save an AI file out of their CorelDRAW. Since they are the ones who will be printing it for you, then that would be the best solution, I guess. You should then also discuss how to deliver the finished artwork back to them.

CorelDRAW has different routines for handling DXF. It's not a native Illustrator file format, so it needs to be interpreted and that might fail. You could upload the DXF to Dropbox or the like and post a link in here, so someone can take a look.

Since the cutting service uses CorelDRAW, ask them for an AI file.

    So basically the cutting service could save an AI file from their Corel?
