Illustrator file size problem

Hi, my AI file size too big.

I always un-check the pdf preview while saving.

I never embed images.

I don't have any complex graphics in the file.

Attached are some screenshots to back these up.

I used to get 2-3 mb file sizes but now its 500-600 mb and increasing. It's like its embedding the images without my control. Is this a new feature? If so, can I turn it off?

Any help is much appreciated.

THose files linked from the Cloud what are they?

Where do you save the files?

You could test this. When you delete suspicious files from it, does it get smaller? I would start with those linked from the Cloud. Or the largest ones.

They're just logos. However I edited the file and made it all native with no cloud links just in case. Still no luck.

I also tried creating a blank document with nothing in it.

Placed in several images. Saved as always and it suddenly became too many megabytes (relative to the images I placed). Clearly something's wrong.

Only thing helped just a little was saving it as a legacy ai, which decreased the file size by half but still not near the normal sizes.

Please be more specific about the "just images"

It might also help to see this.
