Illustrator File Won't Open: “Expected a Dict Object” Error After File Corruption

Hi, I was working something for school and for some reason, the illustrator file  opens up as a PDF, and when I try to open a page, it just shows a message that there is a dict issue and will not open the file. IS there any way to recover the file at this point? I have left the link below if anyone can help me

Hi @Anubhav M

I was wondering if you could help me in recovering my file, since the same "expecting a dict object" comment is showing up when I try to open the file. This is an important file for school, so I appreciate any help in recovering the file if you can, thanks!

Hi @Ayisha5F84,

Thank you for providing the file. I attempted to open it on my end, but unfortunately, no artwork was visible. I have escalated this to our product team for further investigation to explore any recovery options. While I cannot guarantee that the file can be fully restored, please be assured that we will make our best effort to assist.

I will keep you updated as soon as I have more information.

Abhishek

Hi @Ayisha5F84,

Thank you for your patience, and I'm really sorry for how stressful this has been. I wanted to share a confirmed update from the product team.

They reviewed the file you shared and attempted recovery on their side, but unfortunately, the file appears to be corrupted and could not be opened or recovered successfully. We did log this as a bug and investigated it, but in this cas,e the corruption happened at the file level, which means Illustrator is not able to reconstruct the missing content.

I know this is not the outcome you were hoping for, and I truly wish there were better news here. If you happen to have any older versions, backups, or copies of this file from cloud sync, email, or another device, those would be the best chance of getting your work back.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

I'm here to help.

Abhishek
