Illustrator files save in Photoshop

I have the full Creative Cloud complement and have the latest versions of Photoshop and Illustrator installed on my Windows 10 desktop.  Whether I open Illustrator and create an .ai file or save a file as an Illustrator file, it always saves in Photoshop with the Ps logo but with the .ai suffix.  What is causing and how do I correct this?
