Illustrator Freezing

  • October 11, 2017

Morning All,

Our Illustrator freezes around 10-20mins into each session.

We can't work out any rationale behind the behavior. Sometimes it freezes whilst another adobe product is in focus, sometimes whilst we're working. Freezes irrespective of the file, new and old. Irrespective of the tool or action being used. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.

We're on Windows 7.

Top spec Dell machine.

No printer directly connected, a large konica is networked.

We're up to date with all software, drivers etc. Running CC 2017.0.2

Illustrator recovers our files every time but it's incredibly frustrating all the same.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I've missed any extra info required regarding the context.

Did this start recently? If so delete the cookies in your browser and use windows system restore to go back to a date when this was working.

Are you working on files on your harddisk or via a network?

Can you please set up a printer (PDF printer) and try if that helps? Illustrator doesn't like printer queues.

Also: any third party plugins installed?

All fonts checked and OK?

Monika, we very much appreciate your response.

We're working on files on our network.

All fonts checked and OK.

No third party plugins.

Regarding the printer, we never print from Illustrator. We have the Adobe PDF Printer installed along with Acrobat already. However, we usually stick to .AI files and PDF in InDesign, Photoshop or Acrobat. So it's never used.

Do you have any other ideas?

Can you try if working on the hard drive improves the situation? Illustrator is known for causing trouble with networks.

Even if you don't print, Illustrator looks for a printer. It needs to have one accessible at all times. Unfortunately.
