Illustrator Freezing Computer

When I am using Illustrator CC, usually working on either a large file or when saving a document, my whole computer locks up - cannot move the cursor or use any keys. I tried restarting my computer and uninstalling and re-installing Illustrator and the freezing is still occurring. I am not sure if this is an Illustrator issue or a Window's 10 issue (there was a recent update to Windows 10 that might be causing a problem?). Please help!

Hi Ryan,

We are very sorry for this inconvenience. I would request you to please try resetting preferences for Illustrator and share results:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe and.
  • Delete or rename  Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings folders.
  • Launch Illustrator from the creative cloud

Where do you save your files?

Which options for the file format?

Is a printer connected and turned on?

It's a new computer, but the first few days illustrator worked fine. Then it started freezing. Files are saved to a shared Dropbox account, but it doesn't just freeze when saving. When saving it is just a normal .ai or .pdf. I have not printed anything...

Illustrator needs a default printer even when saving a file. Do you have a printer?
