Illustrator is measuring the size of the drop shadow on shape no the path of the shape

So Illustrator is suddenly measuring the size of the drop shadow on my shape instead of the path of the shape. It wasn't doing this previously so something has changed in preferences somehow or an update? Can someone help please?
