Question

Illustrator keeps defaulting my preset layout back to pixels

I'm trying to create a new document. After I change the units to inches, it reverts back to pixels after I enter the first dimension value in. Why is it doing this, and how do I stop it?

Exactly what did you change exactly where and exactly when did it change?

In the "New Document" window (see attached screenshot) I'll change the units depending on what I'm designing for, and it will revert back to the whatever it was beforehand as soon as I enter a value in either of the dimension boxes.

Hi @Han_Solem

Thank you for sharing the details. If I understand correctly, when you create a document, you select Inches as your preferred unit, but after the document is created, it reverts to the default unit. If that’s the case, it’s definitely not the expected behavior.

Here’s what you can try:

  1. Save Your Work: Make sure to save your work.
  2. Restart Illustrator: Close and relaunch Illustrator to see if the issue persists.
  3. Reset Preferences: If the problem continues, consider resetting the preferences. Please note that this may delete your custom settings and workspaces, so ensure you take a backup if needed.

You can find the steps to reset preferences here: Setting Preferences in Illustrator.

Let me know how it goes!
