Illustrator keeps freezing and won't open larger files

I was using illustrator earlier in the day and saved my file without any issues. I closed illustrator. Now i am trying to open my file to work on it again and it keeps freezing and will not open. I was able to open a smaller file of 4 MB but it won't open my file which is 11 MB in size. I transferred my file to another computer that has illustator CS6 and it was able to open. I restarted my computer multiple times, deleted caches, deleted folder OOBE, uninstalled illustator, uninstalled the creative app and still won't open. I also notice that illustrator is very slow. Even sometimes opening the app without opening a file causes it to freeze. Please help, i have a deadline in 2 days and i just spent 2 hours trying to open a file unsuccessfully.
