Illustrator Layers Panel Options - How to lock

Hi everyone.

Layers Panel Options which control how the layer panel function, is there way to lock the setting? I normally only need to see "Show layer only" and Thumbnails Top Level only, but it keep going back to show all layrers that I do not need to see.

Even same files previously set to Layer - Top Level Only, it keeps going back to default.

 

It would be great if you could teach me how to lock this.

What steps do you take to revert the options to default? Can you replicate it in a new document?

The options seem consistent to me:

1. If I open a new document, set layers panel options to 'Show Layers Only' and 'Top Level Only', close the document, then reopen it, the options are the same.

2. If I open a new document, set layers panel options to 'Show Layers Only' and 'Top Level Only', close the document, open another document using default layer panel options, then open the first document, the options are the same.

3. If I do the same but close and reopen Illustrator, the options in each document are consistent.

4. If I create a new document profile using those layer panel options, subsequent new documents using that profile inherit the options correctly.

Hi Doug,

Thank you very much for such a quick reply. 

I created a test file and see if those option would stay or revert back. 

The layer option stays the same on the test file when its re-opened. However, the 'layers panel options' revert back when a new document are created. So, I have to change the seeting again on the 'Layers Panel Options' 

 

I'm hoping if there are setting on preference or somewehre that can make a default setting as some of documents are acccessed by multiple designers that I ahve to change all setting everytime I open a document.

In your first post you said that you experience the options reverting within the same file. Can you replicate that?

 

If you want those options in every new file, you need to create a new document profile with those options set that you will subsequently always use, or edit the existing new document profiles to set those options.

 

New document profiles are stored here (Windows):

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings\en_GB\x64\New Document Profiles
