Question

Illustrator not laser printing / cutting

I am trying to convert from 2D Design to Illustrator for use with a laser cutter.

When sending the file to print, the printer receives the file, but when I hit start, the carriage moves and stops staright away as if it is finished printing. It also doesn't have my settings for my chosen material on the display. It choses a random default setting.

I have the lines on 0.25, red, and ungrouped. Is there anything I am missing / doing wrong.

I maybe mistaken but wasn't 2D Design mothballed a good while ago? It maybe that you need to save down to a really old pdf format. (I'm assuming it can run off of pdf but if not what file format does your cutter require?)

  • What driver are you using to send output to your laser cutter? And what is the make and model of your laser cutter?
  • Do you have a laser printer you can use to check if the output can be printed independent of your laser cutter?
  • Can you try export to another format from Illustrator (like Adobe PDF) and ship that job to the laser cutter? If so, does that work?
  • What version of Adobe Illustrator are you using, and what computer and operating system holds that Illustrator app?

Answers to these questions will help us help you. If you could please share, there are a lot of smart folks around here who may be able to lend a hand.

Hope this helps,
