Question

Illustrator not opening old files and not saving new files

Hi everyone. I have been having this issue on my older Illustrator version where I cannot open older files and cannot save new files I make. I have been told it can be an update issue, but no update notifications are popping up when I check it. I do not even have an update check option on my desktop Adobe Creative Cloud app. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you.

Hi @EJ Villanueva,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind confirming if Monika's suggestion worked for you? If not, would you mind trying the steps suggested in this helpx article (https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-illustrator-indesign.html)?

If that doesn't help either, would you mind confirming the exact version of OS & Illustrator and the location where you are saving the files or from where you are trying to open the files in Illustrator (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)? Also, would you mind confirming what happens next when you try to open or save the file? Do you get an error? If yes, please share a screenshot.

Kindly update the discussion if you still need assistance with it. We'd be happy to help.

Thanks,

Hi. The version I have is the 2018 one. Everytime I open an old file directly from it, it just sits there and does not open up. When I create a new file, I am not able to save it. I can click save, but its just going to sit there loading. And my old files are just saved under my usual Macbook folders like downloads.

Do you have a printer installed properly?

Can you please tell us the version number and system?

In older versions this is often related to the printer or rather a lack of a printer. So can you check if your printer is connected correctly, set up as the default printer and turned on? If you are using a PDF printer on WIndows, can you check that as well? After Windows updates this often gets irritated.
