Illustrator not recognizing inserted linework

I have an illustrator file and inserted a pdf of linework that had been created in cad. Illustrator isnt recognizing the separate lines, just wondering if theres a way to insert the pdf and have the lines be editable. Thanks in advance.

Right click > Open With> Illustrator

If the linework is editable, that will be your ticket.

* Ive found sometimes when opening vector PDFs created with other programs the result is filled shapes instead of stroked lines.

Does the PDF even contain editable lines? Does it contain vector graphics at all?
