Illustrator not responding when opening an .ai file containing linked server files.

Whenever I try to open an .ai file containing elements linked to a Nextcloud server folder (virtual files that have already been downloaded), the application consistently stops responding.

This never happened before; the error only started occurring yesterday.

Did you update Illustrator 2025? There was an updat last week to 29.8.10. Maybe you can check if going back to 29.8.9 does not have the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion, but my problem has already been resolved. I just needed to update Nextcloud.

I agree, this could be related to Illustrator’s handling of the linked Nextcloud files. I’d first test by copying the AI file and linked assets to a local folder; if it opens normally, the issue is likely related to the server/sync path or file permissions.

Yeah, my workflow is like that too, but there are times when I have to retrieve design catalog files from the server, and usually, there aren't any issues :(
