Illustrator not working after the last update

Since the last update, Illustrator is unusable. It lags and freezes when draging objects, zooming in and out, scroll through the work. It's not a hardware issue, or driver issue and everything else (Photoshop. Lightroom, Premiere, After effects, Indesign) work fine. It's just illustrator. So it doesn't respond to the mouse and it acts broken. I don't know what else to say, but it's unusable. Had anyone experienced this? I have unistalled it and installed it again... Even before last update it was super buggy making the "bell" noise when selecting object with the mouse like there was a text box open (even if it was not) and I looked in task manager and there was nothing there that could have not allow me to move objects with the mouse. What's up with illustrator and can I have a work with anyone about this?

I also had the same issue (Macbook Pro M4) and I think I just found the temporary fix for this.
Try switching to CPU preview and back to GPU (Ctrl+E/Cmd+E) twice. It worked for me.

I just stared experienced huge lag and performance issues this morning. I don't understand why but there was absolutely no issue last night. Mostly likely, silent background updates were rolled out which have afftected the software.

Just as other have pointed out, illustrator uses an unrealistic amount of RAM/GP, especially whenhen you look at other software such as Figma which is free and I dare say just as powerful.

Just a quick update. My Illustrator is still NOT WORKING. How can I address this to Adobe? ... because I'm paying a lot of money for a faulty product. I do most of my work on Illustrator and I can't use it. Illustrator alone is over £20 and I doubt that they will deduct that from my monthly bill, so I would like this to be fixed. Here are my updatdes:

- I clean installed the latest studio driver

- As you can see in the thread, hardware is not an issue.

- There are no competing periferals

So it's most likely an Adobe issue which goes on for weeks now so at this point I'm interested in making a complaint. Can anyone help with this?

Here is a SOLUTION: It's 100% the last update that is causing the problems, just go back to the previous version (29.8.3). It works for me. So version 30.0 is the one not working.

You wrote that you have a Wacom (although not plugged in). But is the driver still installed? In that case: is the driver up to date?

Same here, 64GB RAM, RTX5070Ti GPU with latest studio driver. Illustrator 2026 is completely unusable. Zoom, dragging, panning are all extremely laggy.

Hello @jmscott,

I'm sorry to hear you're having similar trouble with Illustrator. Would you mind trying the suggestions shared in this help article (https://adobe.ly/3WPztbC) and let us know if they help? Also, try performing a clean reinstallation of the GPU(s) drivers (Intel / NVIDIA / AMD) and setting the Graphics Preference to High-Performance for Illustrator (https://adobe.ly/3LEoD5M) and let us know how it goes.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

The issues described sound like a graphics board issue to me. Is the driver for the computer's graphics board or integrated chipset up to date?

If the computer has an NVidia board is the Game Ready Driver or Studio Driver being used? Most computers have the Game Ready Driver selected by default, but the Studio Driver is better tuned for creative applications. The latest Studio Driver (581.57) was released on October 14.

It's also possible the freezes and hangs could be caused by a device driver conflict -two devices fighting over the same system resources. If there are other peripherals plugged into the computer (such as a scanner, graphics tablet, etc) try unplugging those devices to see if the lagging issues continue.

You might be right. My driver is Game Ready (I like my video games)... I'll switch to Studio and let you know how that goes. And I did had some problems with the very old graphic tablet Wacom Intuous. After the last Windows update my pc was reading it as the main mouse and completely messed up the actual mouse' configuration. But I don't have the graphic tablet plugged in. I haven't use it with the last updated Illustrator. Let's see how the driver thing is working. Will let you know. Thank you lots! I appreciate you!

Same here, scrolling and alt+scrolling freezes everything for 2-6 seconds. Taskmanager doesn't indicate any spikes on CPU, GPU, RAM nor Disks while this is happening. Win 10 / Illustrator 30.0

WHat is the amount of RAM installed in your computer?

How much of that is used by other apps (particularly a browser)

Did you already reboot the computer and did you reset the preferences?

Thanks for messaging! I got 64GB installed RAM, did reboot and I did reset the preferences but the problem is still going.  WIth illustrator, indesign 3 google chromes now opened it's using 30% memory.
