Illustrator not working with iCloud! Crashing upon document open and/or save!

Hi all,

I'm having a serious issue where being signed into iCloud is causing Illustrator to crash upon document open and/or save. I've spoken to the Adobe tech team and they've said that in order for Ai to work I must sign out of iCloud. I currently have over 10GB of work that I use iCloud to store. Every time I sign out of iCloud I lose that work from my MacBook. I also use iCloud for everything else such as contacts, photos, basic preferences etc.

I'm running an incredibly slow internet connection of approx 300kbps so it takes 8-10 hours to re-download all my work again. The Adobe tech team are blaming Apple and Apple are blaming Adobe. This basically means that I cannot do any work until its fixed as neither Apple or Adobe have any decent temporary fix. I had a couple of issues when High Sierra rolled out but V10.13 fixed those issues and it's been fine until yesterday when this issue arose.

I can't be the only one having this issue and the tech team are 100% aware of this as they guessed the problem before I could even say anything. I can't really find any other mention of this problem on both the Apple and Adobe forums.

If you're having the same issue then please let me know how you're coping with it. If anyone has any advice then post below. Please don't mention things like, "You'll have to live without iCloud" as thats not a fix.

Thanks,

Ben

Correct answer ksetterfield

Ironically just after my last post the problem resolved itself.  After MULTIPLE crashes and "Application not responding" errors upon opening and saving, I finally let the spinning beach ball of death run its course and DID NOT force-quit the app as I had all the other times.

After a long period, (maybe 5 minutes?) AI DID eventually save the file, despite the "Application not responding" message. Ever since then it's been ok!!! I've tested it by opening/saving several files from both my local drive and iCloud. I won't pretend to know what happened, but perhaps letting it push through on its own to save the file worked out the bugs? Good luck with this. I feel your pain!

Thanks for this post. You are right ksetterfield. I waited 15 minutes, and not Illustrator works fine again.

It is not clear what is going on there.... so annoying.

Thanks again for posting this solution

I have the same issue just in the last couple ow weeks.  Its a nightmare.  I lost lots of stuff turning off iCloud.  I'm seriously thinking of giving up iCloud as its inadequate for searching for files etc.  I'm very disappointed in Adobe and iCloud for not having this sorted by now.

Same issue here.  I've uninstalled/reinstalled AI 4 times. Trashed the preferences, etc. Didn't put two and two together that it was iCloud causing the issue, because even when I try to launch AI and open files NOT on iCloud it crashes. Also, AI + iCould works just fine on my MacBook Pro. It only happens from my iMac (desktop). No other Adobe apps have this issue on either computer. So I would have never guessed it was related to iCloud.

After about an hour on the phone with Adobe, they're now telling me I need to call Apple and ask them to help me change my Permissions and Preferences in iCloud to get this to work. I'm dreading another support call and was just wondering if you guys were able to find another work-around. I too store MOST of my AI files on iCloud drive, so turning it off is NOT a feasible option.
