Have a 2021 Macbook Pro and Illustrator 2021 but am unable to copy an object by dragging it while holding down the Option key. It simply no longer works. Please kindly advise if there is a way to correct this problem.

Thanks,

Daniel.

Hi.

Thanks for your prompt response. So I restarted my Mac in Safe Mode but that didn't help. Still unable to use the Option key to drag and copy an object. I uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator IN safe mode, but to no avail. Nothing seems to help. Is there possibly anything else to do to get the Option drag/copy object to work. I've been using Illustrator for Years with no problem, and this small matter REALLY slows down my work as I have to copy/paste each object hundreds of times. I hope you can help me and thanks so much.

Daniel.

Thanks for trying that. I would like to know if you have tried resetting Illustrator preferences? Also, did you use the CC Cleaner to uninstall the app?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. This generally happens when the third-party application is interfering with Illustrator. In that case, you may try running the app in Safe Mode and launch Illustrator only. Then, open a new document, create a rectangle shape, then use the option+drag to duplicate the object and see if that works. In Safe Mode, your system starts to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening. If it works fine in Safe Mode, then restart Mac in normal mode and open other apps one by one, which you usually open, and see which app is conflicting with Illustrator.

Also, it can happen due to corrupt preferences. In that case, you may try resetting them and see if that helps.
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Let us know how it goes. We'll be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,
