Illustrator read-write issue

This is the message I get when trying to open illustrator. I won't continue paying if I continue to have these issues, it's frustrating. Can anyone tell me how to get around this because the instructions don't work.

To work correctly, Adobe Illustrator requires the Preferences folder permission to be ‘Read-Write’. The current permission setting is incorrectly set to ‘Read-Only’.

Click More Info for instructions on correcting the Preferences folder permission setting.

Preferences folder: ‘/Users/marilynnkennedy/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 22 Settings/en_US’

Thanks, Tracey

Use the Disk Utility to check your permissions.

This could be a corrupted preferences file. What operating system are you using?
