I hit shift command B and I could adjust size but then it went back to the problem. layer not locked

And you are using the selection tool (black arrow)?

When was the last time you rebooted the system? If this goes on and off erratically then the first thing to try would be a system reboot and the next thing could be a preferences reset.

I have restarted my computer several times and I am also having issues with the selection staying selected once I select a different too - so if I have a selection with the black arrow tool and want to use the pen+ tool it deselects the path - which defeats the whole purpose.

Hello @ArtisticTrend,

I'm sorry to hear you're having similar trouble with Illustrator. Could you confirm the version of the OS/Illustrator installed and share a small screen recording of your exact workflow and the problem, so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
