Question

Illustrator shape builder slow down

All of a sudden my shape builder tool has had considerable slow down every time I use it on a particular file, almost crashing the App.

Wierd thing is I was using shape builder on the same file the day before with no problems, the vectors are not even that complex.

Minimal changes were made to the file since it happened and I checked if there were duplicate shapes being made by the toll, but there are not.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Same issue. No solution I can find elsewhere. Checking if any solutions have been offered this post was made since the past few years?

How many paths are selected when you use the shapebuilder tool?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • Please confirm the OS & version of Illustrator?
  • Could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud, Dropbox, or any other similar service and share the download link here or via DM as this is happening with a particular file. We, Will, check it at our end.
  • Is Grid mode or Outline mode is turned on? Does turning them off help resolve the issue?
  • Where is this file saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Does copying the content to a new artboard or new document help resolve the issue?
  • Does changing the Raster size to minimum from the Effect menu > Document Raster Effects Settings help resolve the issue?
  • Does toggling ctrl+e/cmd+e helps?

We are here to help. We just need more details.

Regards,

Anshul Saini
