Tried everything. When I mess with the back files, it just pops up an alert and won't open at all. English is not listed from the menu for UI options.

I think you need to eliminate all unnecessary user in your system, then uninstall and clean all your Adobe Apps.

After that, reinstall the software using your Creative Cloud account.

Here you can find the cleaner tool: Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

    Best Regards

Can you be more specific and describe what happened on your computer?

Please tell us the following info:

    • Versión of Illustrator (CS5, CS6, CC)
    • Operating system
    • Configuration (RAM, Video RAM, etc.)
    • Step by step of how the problem occurred.

    Thanks

Its a 2017 CC  MAC and for some reason with mine...I think because I've switched between one too many usernames, I can't use the option to set it through the 'cloud desktop center'. I've tried changing the files from ru_RU to en_US, but then I get an error when I try to open it. I can't find that tw6907.bak or anything for the illustrator. I give up and just going to try to use it based on trial and error. I know where the basic tools brush, slice, etc are.

Have you tried changing the Mac system language to English?
