My daughter has created a picture in illustrator and is now having a problem. The picture has ungrouped and if she try's to group it back together the components go back in the wrong order ,  she isn't sure why or how to get it back together without a lot of work. I hope you understand what I mean.  Any help or advise appreciated.

Debbie,

Is it too late to use Ctrl/Cmd+Z to Undo?

There isn't a way to restore this automatically (apart from using a backup of the file, which will also set her back a couple of steps just in case she worked on the file since).

In order to help with the stacking order of things, she could additionally set up layers in her upcoming projects, to keep background and foregrounds and other things apart.

Not sure why that should be happening but how about using a clipping mask?

The only problem is everything will merge onto one layer (although it will do that with a group too).

Thank you she hadn't thought of that and will give it a try 👍
