Illustrator using 13gb ram at idle

for the past 2 weeks ive been having nothing but problems with illustrator cc, freezing and constant crashes.

I design at 10% scale and even at a 40mb file it has been idling at 13gb ram, I flatten all my work, and if I try to even save a file after a modification it takes a while to save, that is if it does not freeze up and crash.

seems when I even move something around the ram wants to run around 23gb.

is there a way to limit the usage of ram to cc?

getting frustrated and ready to go back to cs6
