Illustrator v25.4.1 - Slow behaviour while launch, save & file previews on Home screen not showing

Hello community,

I have updated to the latest version after waiting for the GPU preview bug to be fixed. But now, those 3 issues are present and related to each other I believe.

1. There are no more files previews whenever I launch Illustrator, as if I never created any files before. Once it is launched and I click on the home button, then I see the previews of my files. The bug comes back if I close illustrator and restart it.

2. Opening any files on the first launch is slow and it looks like illustrator is not responding for like 4-5 sec. Once this file is open, opening any other file is smooth.

3. The first save on the first file open is really slow and it looks like illustrator is not responding for like 4-5 sec. Once this is done, then any other saves goes as usual.

Let's see what the support team as to say about it!

Thanks!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing and the delayed response. I would like to know if you have tried the steps suggested above by me? If they didn't help, I would request you to share a few more details along with the ones asked above by me:

  • Does updating to Illustrator v26.0.1 help resolve the issue?
  • Does your system have a dedicated GPU (Nvidia/AMD)? If yes, which GPU is it?
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • Operating System
  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?

For file preview issues on the home screen, you may try the following steps one by one and let us know how it goes:

  • Rename the CEP folder to "CEP.old" from the following location:
    Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help, rename the extensions folder to "extensions.old" from the following location:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP
    MAC: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP

For slow performance issues, you may try the try the steps shared in this post (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illustrator/td-p/11561981) step by step and share your observation with us.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello Anshul,

Thanks for your help and sorry for my late reply. I was waiting to see how Illustrator behaves.

  • My Operating System is Windows 10 Pro version 21H1 and with the latest updates.
  • The issue is not related to any particular document.
  • My designs files are not on the C drive, but on a second drive on my laptop (D) and it is an HDD.
  • I have done your corrections to CEP folder and extensions, and it sort of seems to have worked.
  • I have not looked into the bug fixing link yet, because I think my issue may not need all that.

What is surprising to the me is that the behaviour comes and go. Sometimes I have it, sometimes not. I am not sure if it linked with my restarting my laptop or just sometimes another reason. But all in all, this bug is less present.

Thanks!

Thank you for sharing the details ad trying the steps. If the issue becomes persistent in the near future, please try the suggestion shared in the community post shared above. I hope it does not come to that.
