Illustrator v27.8.1 - issues with PDF's opening in Acrobat DC and RIP

We've recently encountered an issue where PDF's created in illustrator v27.8.1 fail to open in Acrobat DC with an error "insufficient data for an image". Then we receive an error in our RIP "Error reading image data stream" on these files. We also receive an error opening this PDF's in Callas PDFToolbox.

The same source illustrator files produce problem-free PDFs in illustrator v27.7

Hello @lancep97956778 @displaystar,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're facing with PDFs created in Illustrator v27.8.1. It's frustrating when such errors occur, especially when they impact workflows.

I want to assure you that our team is aware of this issue. The bug has been logged, and we have successfully reproduced the problem. Our developers are actively working on a fix to address this issue and ensure that PDFs generated from Illustrator open correctly in Acrobat and other tools.

In the meantime, for updates and progress on the issue, I recommend upvoting and keeping an eye on this UserVoice thread: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/47158804-adobe-illustrator-27-8-1-creates-a-pdf-where-the-c. We ahave been expeiencing a similar issue but with nartive .AI files (with PDF compatability).  Seems to have been introduced right after 27.8.1 update.  If you attempt to rasterize the "bad" files in Photoshop you will see that some of the images appear to have become corrupted and contain blank white bars or areas of distortion.  Re-opening the same "bad" file in 27.7 and saving will result in a probelm-free file.  We haven't been able to figure out a cause as it seems to happen randomly, and not all files are affected.  Only work around so far is to roll back Illustrator to 27.7.
