Illustrator V30 Issues: Missing Artwork, Shortcut Not Working, and Repeated Permission Prompts

Going back to V29 (2025) which seems much smoother.

Too many odd things. After my missing artworks problem (lost 3 hours) plus another 90 minutes with support on chat only to get a “reset application” response, it's not good.

No more magnifier with command space. And seems no way to reset that. All good in V29.

V30 Requests access to other programs - every time you start the app - why? V29 didnt…?

Resetting the application creates the big task of putting it all back in the way you need it to work.

I am not going to waste any more time on it for now. Staying on 2025 version. Stable and efficient.

If having to re-set up the program after resetting preferences is an issue for you then I would recommend that after a preference and program reset you keep a copy of your newly “pristine” preference file for future use. I have found that being able to simply substitute a “good” preference folder for a corrupted one is a valuable tool in assuring good program performance without losing a lot of time and expending a lot of effort.

To find your Illustrator preference file:

For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which Illustrator’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that Illustrator is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N).With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”). You would create a copy that folder for future use.

For Windows Users: On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>. You would make a copy of the “Adobe Illustrator [version number]\ Settings\<Language>” folder for future use.

    Hi @project77,

Sorry to hear about your experience, I completely understand how frustrating this must have been, especially with the time lost. I'll do my best to help here.

Could you please confirm if all these issues are occurring on version 30.2.1 or another 30.x build? Also, sharing your macOS version will help me check this further.

Regarding the Cmd+Space shortcut, I tested this on my end and it opens Spotlight Search. Could you confirm if you're seeing the same? If yes, please try disabling it from System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Spotlight and uncheck "Show Spotlight search", then test again.

For the permission prompts, please try the steps shared by Anubhav in this thread and see if that helps: https://adobe.ly/3PvDMbE

Since you mentioned concerns around resetting preferences, you can first take a backup and then reset to test. If it doesn't help, you can restore your setup using this video: https://adobe.ly/4lQajFn

Also, if you're still facing the data loss issue, could you share a bit more detail on when it occurs so I can assist further?

Let me know how it goes.

    Abhishek
