illustrator wanting to save files as .pdf

my latest version of Illustrator (version 29.6 - updated on June 18/25) wants to save files as .pdf by default, instead of .ai - is anyone else experiencing this?

    I have been experiencing the same bug for a while now, and it's really annoying.  It is for any new file created.

    Why can Adobe never have an update that doesn't break core (and the bare basic) functionality of their apps??

      Please tell us all the steps you take. Does that happen with a completely newly created file?

      Is that only happening when you save to a computer? Cloud should automatically save as .ai. 

       

      Try using "save as" if you haven't already, then save as .ai ... Doing that might reset the default.
