Question

Illustrator - What have they done to you?!

Just bought my first copy of what is now called 'Creative Cloud' for a while. Everything has been redesigned, nothing seems to work properly. Fonts don't show up, the same filtered categories look different each time, fonts randomly change after you've selected them... and then disappear from the menu.

Can't wait to see what other features have been entirely messed up.

What did they do? Is this the 're-imagined' illustrator - it looks like the original, but without the intuitive functionality? Have I made a mistake spending my money on Adobe - has it been surpassed in the past few years by something better, something closer to the original?

Can't wait to see what they've done to PhotoShop and InDesign...

Depending on how long the gap is between your experiences with the software - yes there could be a learning curve to bring you up to speed with newer features. However, base functionality is fairly similar - the pen tool, shapes, etc. are still there.

This page outlines recent updates to the software: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/whats-new.html

The font issues you mention do not seem normal. Fonts can change using the scroll wheel if you are actively hovering in the font list. They should not change "randomly" on their own. What are you using for a font management program? How many fonts do you currently have active?
