Illustrator Width tool not working

Hi, I have a rectangle shape with a 3 pt stroke. I need to edit the stroke with the width tool but it's not working. It worked fine on the school computer, not working at home, what do I need to do?

    What is the location setting for the stroke? Inside, outside or centered? Try it with the stroke centered.

    As Larry suggested, try a centered stroke. Unfortunately, the Width tool and Stroke Profiles only work with a centered stroke.
