Illustrator won't respond to my keyboard half the time

I am so confused so many times because I feel like I have to press keys multiple times but only sometimes so my illustrator recognizes it. Any key or key combo. It could be ctrl+c then v or nudging something up or down using the arrow keys,etc. When nothing happens in illustrator I click on any other program, like a browser and test it but it works without any issue. Only happens with Illustrator. Just 5 minutes ago I had to press like ctrl+c and v like 5 times before it started to work. It's not a keyboard issue. As I said ONLY happens with illustrator.
