Image trace and mark

I am new to Adobe Illustrator. I've brought some png files into Illustrator and I'm getting a thin lined square frame in my file when I open it. Why is it there and will it disappear when I save the file as an .ai file? Also, when I do an image trace and mark it turns to black and white. When I save the file will it revert back?   Also...so Is it possible to convert a PNG file to a .ai file? Thanks in advance.

The thin lined square probably is the artboard. It's always there. Everything you want to have printed, needs to be inside the artboard.

As for the Image Trace, you need to check the options in the Image Trace panel.

Tracing the raster image turns it into a vector artwork. Depending on the template, you might get better results when doing it manually.
