Images disappear after dragging and dropping to Illustrator

I had trouble dragging and dropping from Photoshop 25 to Illustrator 25, but the last upgrade fixed this.  Now after I drag and drop the image disappears a few minutes later and isn't there after saving.

Resetting Preferences solves the problem. If not, leave a comment on Uservoice:

Hey folks, today i've updated my illustrator to newset version (29.6.1) and noticed that the project I was working yesterday losed some of my attached images.
They where print screens that I would use as reference.
Now they look just like the image below:

I cant only see some lines where the images should be.
in the layers, they look empty, as you can see below.

Does this happened to anyone?

Hi @17911149,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing these screenshots. I can imagine how worrying it must be to see your reference images suddenly missing after an update.

When you paste screenshots or images directly into Illustrator, they are embedded in the file. Sometimes, after an update, certain embedded images can appear as missing or just show as outlines if there is a display glitch or corruption in the file.

Could you please let me know your macOS version and confirm whether this issue is happening in all files or just this specific one? Also, if possible, try creating a new test file and paste a few new screenshots to see if they display correctly.

In addition, please try disabling GPU Performance in Illustrator Preferences > Performance and check if the images reappear. You can also try enabling Overprint Preview from the View menu as this sometimes forces a more accurate rendering of objects that may not be displaying properly.

Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek

I'm running mac os sequoia 15.5

The files are named as .tif (as screenshot shows) and they were print screens from websites (such as behance and other stuff) that i've done and paste into my illustrator file. I've always did that and never happened something like this.
If i paste a new print screen, it shows up perfectly.

Hi Mary_Tolosa1763,

Sorry for the trouble. This is a known issue, and the product team has worked on this issue and has provided the following update: The issue should be resolved in Beta 29.6.142 (which is oddly displayed as build 9999 in Creative Cloud Desktop app). Please test in the beta version and let us know if it resolves the problem.

We'll be happy to assist you further.

Thanks,

Harshika

This error cost me 3 days of work. Complete and total loss of 2 client files, with no warning. Fix this immediately. The last 2 years of CC products have really been a complete dissapointment in regard to stability and bugs.

Having the same issue, as is everyone in my org.  Wondering if there is an update coming to solve this.  Saving images locally and placing them works, it isn't always the most efficient workflow.

Good day.

I have recently been struggling with the same issue.

When I save my file and later re-open the file, then all of my objects have moved to randoms spots.

I already updated Illustrator & uninstalled & re-installed it, but it keep happening.

Same problem here. When I drag .jpg's from the internet (I design t-shirts and use supplier catalog shirt images for mockups) they are converted to .tif. Sometimes they disappear upon save or save as .pdf.  Sometimes they corrupt to pixelated lines and then disappear.

Please vote on UserVoice since this still is not solved in the latest 29.5 update.

I'm having an issue in v29.4 with transparency masks.  I have a placed image that is a transparency mask for a solid color.  When I close the document and open it again, the placed images have shifted from their original position to the center of the document. The placed image also defaults to 100% size rather than the size it was set to in the document. The centers of the placed image and the solid color were aligned when I closed my document.  I

I reloaded v29.0, opened my document and it is showing as expected.
