Question

Import DWG with correct artboard size / layer settings

Is there a way to change the size of artboard used when importing a DWG or to detect the size automatically?

I am also trying to figure out a way to batch apply layer settings to an imported DWG. I'm currently importing each DWG to its own artboard and the line settings should be global.

Thanks

Hello, @Charlie329572228uvxSkydiving in Manali

Here's a solution based on the information from my knowledge.

Changing the Artboard Size When Importing DWG Files
To change the size of the artboard when importing a DWG file, you can follow these steps:

* Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document with the desired artboard size.

* Go to File > Import > Select the DWG file you want to import.

* In the import dialog box, make sure to check the "Use Artboards" option and select the appropriate artboard size.

* Adjust the scaling options to ensure the DWG file fits the artboard correctly. See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/change-default-import-artboard-size-orientation/m-p/13044048?form=MG0AV3.

Batch Applying Layer Settings to Imported DWG Files
To batch apply layer settings to an imported DWG file, you can use the following approach:

Create a new document preset with the desired artboard size and layer settings.

Save this preset in the Illustrator settings folder (e.g., C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings\en_US\x64\New Document Profiles for Windows).

Import the DWG files using the preset you created.

Use the "Global Colors" and "Global Swatches" to apply consistent layer settings across all imported DWG files. See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/batch-dwg-import-and-layer-properties-edit/td-p/14580599?form=MG0AV3.

I hope this info is helpful to you.

Best Regard,
Jennifer Anderson
