Inadvertent text box creation

Does anybody know a way to modify create text box preferences?

Somehow, I generate text boxes unintentionally when switching tools or making selections. This happens whether I'm using tablet/pen or trackpad, and any time I double click, regardless of which tool I'm in.  It also happens when I single click in certain circumstances, but I might just be rapidly double clicking without realizing it.  I changed the input speed on my wacom pen and my trackpad but to no avail.

I'd like to just shut off "Double Click to Create Text Box" but that doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

Not a huge issue, but has become one of those things that just aggravates me no end.  So any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What Jeff said applies to Illustrator:

There is no "Double Click to Create Text Box" feature.

I am not aware of any mechanism that would cause the behavior you describe; thus, no way to fix it. Sorry.

There is no "Double Click to Create Text Box" feature.

But that does not mean you can't create a Text Frame by accident. Anything that you click on with the Type tool that does not contain content will become a Text Frame. The most common accidental Text Frames are probably page backgrounds. Anytime you click with the Type tool outside of a Text Frame you're working in, a background object can instantly become a Text Frame.

My best advice, is to use Layers with all text in a top Layer. And lock your Background Layer when working with the Type tool. And of course be careful where you click with the Type tool.
