Inadvertently entered outline(?) mode--how do I exit it?

I was working on a drawing that had colored lines and text. I attempted to change a box selection from the default black line with white interior to yellow line with blank interior when all the lines went to thin black lines and all text went from red to black. I haven't figures out how to exit whatever mode I was put in.

    It sounds like Illustrator might have switched to Outline mode. To return to your normal colored view, press Cmd/Ctrl + Y on your keyboard. 

     

    Please give that a try and let me know if your artwork displays correctly again.

    As Abhishek said simply using the keyboard shortcut Command/Control-Y will bring you back to the full color mode which is known as the Preview mode. Illustrator has always had two modes: Preview and Outline. You may find many instances in which working in Outline is actually preferable. It is especially useful when you want to make sure that two objects are perfectly aligned. Enlarging the Outline art makes it possible to see whether two lines are perfectly on top of one another. As one becomes more familiar with working in illustrator Outline mode can be a very handy tool to make use of. In addition to the key command you can toggle back and forth between Outline and Preview under the View menu.

    Thanks Abhishek & Bill,

    I tried Cmd/Cntl + Y but nothing happened. If it helps any to better indentify the issue, I opened a couple of other files and they opened in the normal mode, so it's only this file that's affected.

    Just to further clarify. Command/Control does not mean to hold both of those keys down on a Mac along with the Y key. The key command for the Mac is simply Command-Y. It is Control-Y on a Windows PC.
